The World Happiness Report is out and the results may surprise you. Stressors such as those we’ve experienced in 2020 can encourage people to craft a different, big-picture concept of happiness. And this, psychologists say, can help us redefine joy and build resilience. (Washington Post)
What Are Aces? And How Do They Relate To Toxic Stress? In 1995, the CDC and researchers at the Kaiser institute conducted a study evaluating the impact of aversive childhood experiences (referred to as ACEs) on overall physical and emotional health later in life. The more ACEs a person experiences, the more likely he or she is to suffer from things like heart disease, stroke, poor academic performance, and toxic stress as an adult. The good news is that damage from early childhood trauma isn’t irreparable – through increased awareness, we can understand its impact, make proactive changes in our environments, and identify areas of prosocial and professional support.
