Individual Counseling For Adults

Our Approach to Individual Counseling

Therapy is about much more than a "place to vent," or a "listening ear."  Our approach to therapy is strengths-based and solution-focused, through scientifically-validated evidence-based interventions that are specific to your personal struggles.

With every person we work with, our goal is to:

Recognize and Capitalize on Your Strengths: We look at how you successfully managed stressful situations in the past and figure out ways to use those healthy coping strategies now.

Identify Roadblocks and Shift Your Thinking:  Many times clients tell us that they "know" that they "should" do something differently, but that in the moment they can't seem to make changes.  This is why they have sought out our help, rather than sat down to chat with a friend over coffee.  We use specific interventions, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) (link to article), and advanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions to address and limit the emotional impact of past experiences holding you back today.

Empower You to Make Changes: It is difficult to make changes when you feel depressed and anxious.  Negative thoughts and feelings trap you in a viscous cycle.  By helping you reduce negative emotions and judgments, you become empowered to see things differently, make effective change, and respond differently to stressors in the future.
