Whatever You Do, DON’T Think Of A PINK ELEPHANT!
How long did you last? My guess is less than 5 seconds. Don’t feel bad. That’s how our brain works. And it’s the same with OBSESSIVE or ruminative THOUGHTS.
This week I’m talking about what to do when your brain won’t let go of those niggling “pink elephants” or irrational worries.
PS: If this is something that you or your child struggle with, I’d recommend the book “What To Do When You Worry Too Much” (for anxiety) or What To Do When Your Brain Gets Stuck” (for thought rumination or OCD). Even though these books are written for kids, I recommend them to adults as well. They explain anxiety and coping skills in an easy to understand way and deliver the message in bite-sized chunks.
